Native American Lives Book Series Expands With New Stories and Art by MCAD Alumni

On August 4, the Minnesota Humanities Center hosted a celebratory launch event for the re-release and expansion of Native American Lives, a middle-grade book series that highlights influential Native individuals from both past and present. Among the forthcoming titles are stories about modernist artist George Morrison ’43, a trailblazer in abstract expressionism and a proud Ojibwe man.

Each title is authored by Native writers and illustrated by Native artists, continuing the project’s commitment to authentic representation. Cole Redhorse Taylor ’17, a citizen of the Prairie Island Indian Community, is one of two illustrators for the series’ book covers. Taylor’s vivid illustrations breathe life into the series, capturing the spirit and individuality of each featured figure.
