July 06, 2026 Image Amy Zents at The Journal Nancy Ariza was recently interviewed by The Journal about her artist residency at the Cellar Press. Ariza’s work focused on reimagining elements of the traditional Latin American game, Lotería. Specifically, the subject are ten dichos (riddles given by el gritón or “the yeller”) that she documented from her childhood. The purpose of the prints is to preserve the oral tradition that had started to be phased out of the game. Her residency allowed her to teach wood block and letter press printing. As she explains “participants made some wonderful prints and embraced the process. Teaching always reminds me of why I enjoy printmaking.”Learn moreRiddles off the Cellar Press(nujournal.com—June 4, 2026) Explore more about Nancy Ariza
