James Casebere ’76 is currently featured in The Poetic Dimension, a two-person exhibition pairing Casebere’s evocative photographs with new sculptural works by Mexican artist Jose Dávila.

The exhibition explores a shared artistic dialogue with the work of celebrated Mexican modernist architect Luis Barragán, focusing on the emotional resonance of architecture through the lens of form, space, and color. Casebere, a seminal figure in the Pictures Generation, presents new photographs inspired by Barragán’s iconic buildings, including the Gilardi House and the architect’s own Mexico City studio.

“It’s my attempt to embody the spirit and ambition and values that Barragán tried to create—to create ‘an emotional architecture,’ as [Barragán] put it,” said Casebere.

Together, Casebere and Dávila offer a poetic and personal meditation on architecture’s capacity to move, transform, and inspire.
