The Metropolitan Museum of Art will debut The Magical City: George Morrison’s New York—the first solo exhibition of the Grand Portage Anishinaabe artist George Morrison ’43 at the Met.

Highlighting twenty-five key works from Morrison’s early career in 1940s–50s New York, the show explores how the city’s industrial landscapes, jazz, and artistic circles shaped his evolution as a major Abstract Expressionist. The exhibition includes rare archival materials and Morrison’s iconic Horizon series, showcasing the fusion of his Indigenous roots with modernist innovation.
