Illustration of Kup, dog, cat, bird.

Since the beginning of my MFA journey, one motif has remained constant: vines, shrubs, and nature. Plants have been an integral part of my childhood, grounding me in moments of chaos. This connection extends to the character of Kup, my protagonist, who is a “mud baby”, capable of absorbing environments and conditions around them. They are a being who understands that without exploration and connection, they will face the pain of hollowness. Kup's journey mirrors my own creative process and personal moral, an endless pursuit of learning, adapting, and evolving through art, music and life experiences. We reap what we sow; it is our responsibility to plant seeds of hope into our existence, nurturing them through action, or risk doing nothing and remaining lost in darkness and the void.

The exhibition presents Kup’s origin story to the audience. Guided through an instruction board, and five old-school MP3 players, each with narration that will lead the viewers to the immediate work chronologically. Viewers will witness how Kup came to Earth, experiencing their first encounters with the world. The narration, delivered through “God Voice,” guides the audience through their story of coming into being. With a blend of spoken words and voice, manifesting as a song, “Paper cup” headphone with the animation and narration accompanied with saxophone and piano will invite interaction and immersion in Kup’s journey.

Before entering the final stop, viewers will first encounter an acrylic with welded frame, adorn with gold leaf, the painting that explores Kup’s relationship with time, symbolizing their experience of growth and transformation. After this moment of reflection, viewers step into a floating space where fragmented paintings and visual elements illustrate Kup’s evolving story. The structure, built with welded rods suspending each piece, creates an environment where memories, stories, and emotions float offering only glimpses of Kup’s ongoing journey.

Through animation, motion graphics, old-school comic strips, and mixed media, Kup attempts to communicate, using art as their voice. This interdisciplinary approach reflects my own practice, where each project is an opportunity to explore a new medium, from scratch, pushing my creative boundaries, and obviously questioning my ability with how time works as well. Kup’s transformation is symbolic—not just of growth, but of the way experiences shape us. Their first interaction with mud becomes the soil for flourishing vines, shrubs, and greenery, embodying the cycle of connection, transformation, and endless expansion.
