My comic-making practice explores narratives of queerness, trauma, and personal growth through horror, romance, esoterically laced surrealism, and sprinkles of campy fun. I adore using traditional ink, gouache, white-out and screentone to create an unabashedly raw visual aesthetic, paired with stories fueled by intimacy and introspection. My current ongoing project, Attis, a Trans Folk Horror, has been the focal point of my studio practice for nearly two years, and is a vehicle to strengthen my voice as an illustrator and reify the scope of my storytelling. Volume 1 follows Miles, Ben and Cameron, as they traverse a mysterious pine forest. By day the trio starves and wanders aimlessly through the misty wood, and at night strange beasts and spirits torment them relentlessly. Any hope of escape seems to be lost, but after finding a magical fruit that induces overwhelming euphoria, the group begins to unravel the true nature of the pines— while also exploring their inner selves. This project was born out of a hunger for stories that authentically reflect my lived experience as a trans person. Through Attis, I am seeking to capture the full gambit of queer life – the euphoric peaks and soul crushing valleys.
