Tom Gormally ’77 will present two sculptures in Knock on Wood, a group exhibition opening March 5 at the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.

The exhibition features thirty-four artists from across the Pacific Northwest who work in wood. Knock on Wood explores the breadth of contemporary wood practices in a region long associated with both forest landscapes and strong craft traditions.

Gormally’s featured works include Kitty Lessons (2024), a carved and fabricated wood sculpture incorporating LED lights, and Here Lies Lies (2025), a large-scale mixed-media piece combining wood with porcelain, glass, resin and lighting elements.

“I love the beauty and simplicity of wood,” Gormally said in an artist statement, noting that the material allows him to blend carving, burning and fabrication techniques while exploring environmental and philosophical themes.
