Sherry Muyuan He ’25, MFA has released a new book, Typography Beyond Borders: Design with Multiscriptual Typographic Elements, offering a fresh perspective on global typography and inclusive design education.

The book addresses a longstanding gap in design resources, which have historically centered on Latin-based scripts. Aimed at designers and students whose native languages do not use the Latin alphabet, as well as professionals designing for non-Latin audiences, He’s work encourages readers to broaden their typographic approach and embrace multicultural perspectives.

Rather than focusing on a single region or language group, Typography Beyond Borders compares a wide range of writing systems, inviting designers to move beyond Western-centric styles. The book also serves as a resource for educators working with international students, offering strategies for building more inclusive and culturally responsive classrooms.
