September 23, 2025 Image Peter Williams ’75 The MCAD Gallery proudly presents Peter Williams: Homegoing—A Call and Response, a powerful new exhibition honoring the legacy of celebrated painter Peter Williams ’75. The show brings together Williams’ bold, emotionally resonant works with pieces from sixteen Black Minnesota-based artists, spanning multiple generations of MCAD alumni.Curated by Keisha Williams, Director of Gallery and Curatorial Programs at MCAD, the exhibition reflects on the ongoing impact of slavery, racial violence, and the pursuit of liberation through Afrofuturist visions. The show is both a tribute and a dialogue—pairing five of Williams’ large-scale paintings and six smaller works with new contributions from artists including Ta-coumba T. Aiken ’74, Leslie Barlow ’16, Candice Davis ’18 and Bobby Rogers ’14.The gallery unfolds in three thematic sections—past, present, and future—guiding visitors through the deep legacies of racial trauma and forward into visions of hope and Black utopia. For some participating artists, this exhibition marks a personal connection to Williams; for others, it offers a profound introduction to his legacy.Peter Williams: HomegoingSeptember 5–November 1, 2025MCAD Gallery (Minneapolis, MN)Learn MoreFrom slavery to Afrofuturism: Black Minnesota artists celebrate the legacy of Peter Williams(sahanjournal.com—September 5, 2025) Explore more about Peter Williams Ta-Coumba Aiken Leslie Barlow Candice Davis Bobby Rogers
