Alumni Norman Carlberg will soon be inducted into the Brainerd High School Distinguished Achievement Hall of Fame. This comes posthumously after his passing in 2018 at the age of 90.

Carlberg graduated from Brainerd in 1947, and there he began his artistic journey. He studied art at MCAD, then named the Minneapolis School of Art, in 1950 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Following his discharge in 1954, he continued studying art at MCAD and Yale University’s School of Art. From then on, he had a prolific career, creating renowned sculptures and public works, alongside teaching as a professor at the Rinehart school of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
