Meet Lynaea Russom: Artist, Instigator, and Advocate for Being a Person First

In a recent Bold Journey interview, artist and screenprinter Lynaea Russom ’24—also known as an “instigator of artistic gatherings”—shares her creative path with humor, resilience, and grounded authenticity.

A graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where she now works, Russom draws daily inspiration from the students and colleagues around her. She reflects on how identity, financial strain, and mental health have shaped her journey, all supported by the steady encouragement of her family.

While her background is rooted in screenprinting and painting, Russom is currently more focused on collaborative projects—though she hesitates to call herself a curator and instead insists on a “curator of a good time.”

Working out of a moody-lit bedroom studio, Russom is leaning into absurdity, loosening her grip on perfection, and reminding us that being a person always comes before being an artist.
