Keisha Williams, director of galleries and exhibitions at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, is gaining regional attention after being featured in MinnPost for co-founding BLK Collectors, a new initiative created with curator Esther Callahan to make art collecting more accessible and community-driven.

BLK Collectors aims to rethink who gets to be a collector by encouraging people to start with approachable entry points—prints, local art fairs, studio visits, and community sales. “We’re about finding pathways to enter the world of collecting, which doesn’t have to be buying the million-dollar painting,” Williams said.

The pair’s work is centered on celebrating Black creativity and reinvesting in local artists. “Our ancestors knew what it was to build community and support from within,” Williams noted. “This is where our values are and this is where our money should be going.”

Several pieces featured in their recent SooVAC exhibition were originally acquired at the MCAD Art Sale.
