The family of George Morrison ’43 gathered to celebrate the late artist's first solo exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). The Magical City: George Morrison's New York features work he made during his time in New York City, a place he deeply cherished. His son, Briand Morrison, told MPR News, “I think he would have been truly satisfied. It was his dream to come to New York, he told that to me, because this is where the art is.”

A few dozen of Morrison’s friends and family flew in from Minnesota, and some as far as Sweden, for the show's private reception on October 21. Sylvia Yount, who oversees the American Wing at The Met, noted, “It’s the first major exhibition to really probe George Morrison's early years in New York, this formative time period in his production. To be done by a major New York Institution. It feels very significant and very momentous in a lot of ways.”
