Gabriel Saloman Mindel Brings Global Experimental Sound Practice to MCAD

Visiting MFA faculty member Gabriel Saloman Mindel recently returned from a series of international performances and a prestigious residency with Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM), one of the world’s leading centers for electroacoustic music.

Mindel and his longtime collaborator Pete Swanson, performing as the experimental music duo Yellow Swans, were commissioned to compose and present a new work for GRM’s annual PRÉSENCES électronique festival in Paris.

Back on campus, Mindel is bringing this experience directly into the classroom. Students in Media Arts 3068: Experimental Sound are currently working with him to build contact microphones and develop graphic scores, engaging hands-on with the same exploratory techniques that define his artistic practice.
