Soulis Fine Art Auctions recently marked a milestone as it presented its 20th Annual Winter Sale, including works from former Minneapolis School of Art professor Anthony Angarola.

The anniversary auction opened February 21 with property from the estate of John Adair Jr., a Kansas-born collector who operated an antique shop in Tokyo for more than three decades.

Of particular regional and academic interest are works by Chicago modernist Angarola and his student and fiancée Belle Baranceanu. After his sudden death at age 36, Baranceanu moved to California, where she became one of the few female muralists employed by the Works Progress Administration.
