Dan McAvey Named Artist-in-Residence at Sax-Zim Bog

Dan McAvey ’22, MFA, has been selected as an artist-in-residence at Sax-Zim Bog in northern Minnesota, taking place from August 18–24.

During his residency, McAvey will focus on plein air painting, capturing the natural beauty and ecological richness of the bog. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he plans to explore the mental health benefits of spending extended time immersed in nature—a topic that aligns closely with his creative and personal interests.

In a lighter twist, McAvey will also be field-testing his latest outdoor innovation: a full-body mosquito netting system designed to withstand the notoriously buggy conditions of the bog.
