MCAD adjunct faculty member Edward R. Charbonneau ’06, MFA presented an international webinar, Regarding Racism in Colour Theory, hosted by the Colour Society of Australia on April 18.

In the talk, Charbonneau examines the historical foundations of modern color theory through the work of Bauhaus artist and educator Johannes Itten, whose influential teachings continue to shape art and design education. Drawing on his ongoing research, Charbonneau situates Itten’s theories within the context of the spiritual movement Mazdaznan and its racial ideology, offering a critical perspective on how these ideas have been embedded often invisibly within contemporary pedagogy.

The webinar builds on Charbonneau’s paper of the same name, first presented at the 2025 International Colour Association Congress in Taiwan.
