Ben Moren’s Surface Tension Opens at Silverwood Park Gallery

Ben Moren ’10 will soon show a new immersive sculptural exhibition titled Surface Tension at the Silverwood Park Gallery.

The exhibition examines the history of military waste dumping in Lake Superior and features large-scale cyanotype prints on #12 canvas, suspended from custom metal racks that evoke tenting and shipping materials. The prints depict aerial views of the lake’s surface above sites where the U.S. Army dumped barrels of munitions manufacturing waste between 1959 and 1962. Accompanying aerial video footage heightens the contrast between Lake Superior’s striking beauty and the hidden environmental legacies beneath its surface.

Moren is a media artist whose work spans filmmaking, performance, sculpture, sound, and custom software systems. His practice explores human perception, time and scale, and humanity’s ongoing relationship with the natural environment.
