Barlow Featured in Minnesota Monthly for Portrait Project

Leslie Barlow '16 was featured in Minnesota Monthly for her use of the 2023 Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support Grant in supporting and uplifting other artists.

Barlow will use her 2023 Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support Grant to focus on her fellow women of color artists by painting portraits of them and asking them questions such as "What does your art practice mean to you and what are the things that bring you joy?"

She brings attention to the importance of her artistic process. “With the mutual gaze that happens, when you are seeing someone and are painting them, and they are seeing you in the process of painting, especially as a woman of color, it’s very healing.”
