Avery Johnson Shortlisted for Prestigious AXA Art Prize

Recent MCAD Drawing and Painting graduate Avery Johnson ’25 has been named one of forty finalists for the 2025 AXA Art Prize, one of the nation’s most prestigious awards for emerging figurative artists.

Johnson was selected from over six-hundred submissions by a panel of prominent exhibition jurors. The AXA Art Prize US recognizes outstanding work in figurative painting, drawing, and printmaking by current and recently graduated art students. The finalist exhibition will be on view this November at the New York Academy of Art, showcasing the top selections from across the country.

Winners will be chosen by a jury of renowned artists, including Ali Banisadr, David Antonio Cruz, and Deborah Kass, alongside Jennifer Schipf, Global Chief Underwriting Officer – Fine Art & Specie at AXA XL. The first-place winner will receive $10,000, with $5,000 awarded to the runner-up.
