Shannon Benine (she/they) is a North American artist, educator, and curator whose work explores the complexities of the human condition, with a focus on identity, memory, and social justice. Through a diverse range of media, including photography, video, and installation art, she investigates the ways in which individual experiences are shaped by broader cultural and historical forces. Informed by feminist art theory and using experimental documentary practices, Benine aims to foster empathy and encourage critical dialogue through her work.

Their art is included in several collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and the National Centre of Contemporary Art in Moscow, Russia. She has received grant support from multiple institutions, including the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Benine holds an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a BFA from the University of Washington. Having taught in higher education for nearly two decades, they joined MCAD as the Chair of Media Arts in fall 2025.
