Thu, Mar 5, 2026, 1:00 —2:15 p.m. Auditorium 150 Visiting Artist Lecture Image Please join us on Thursday, March 5 for a visiting artist lecture with Julie Nelson at 1:00 p.m. in Auditorium 150.Julie Nelson is an animator, story artist, and writer with 30 years of industry experience in TV and film. She studied painting at St. Olaf College and 2D animation at Sheridan College in Ontario before getting hired by Industrial Light and Magic to animate CG creatures in such films as Mars Attacks!, The Lost World, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and Jurassic Park 3. She left ILM to focus on character animation at Dreamworks (Megamind, Rise of the Guardians, Madagascar, Shrek) and Pixar (Toy Story 4, Soul). Wanting to be more involved with character development and story, she transitioned to storyboarding and has boarded projects for Warner Bros. Animation, Netflix, and most recently, Amazon Prime’s Secret Level series. She is currently directing an independent 2D animated short based on her award-winning screenplay, The Comps.This lecture is sponsored by The Media Arts Department.
