Show of Hands: Art of Puppetry for Ages 6-9 (In Person) | Minneapolis College of Art and Design

Show of Hands: Art of Puppetry for Ages 6-9 (In Person)

Lean into a flair for drama and explore theatrical expression through mixed-media hand and finger puppets. Open to ages 6 to 9.

Course description

Create mixed media hand and finger puppets inspired by the work of Jim Henson and articulated rod puppets based on Indonesian shadow puppets. Combine materials like fabric scraps, felt, socks, yarn, ribbons, buttons, styrofoam forms, wire, fake fur, to create unique characters and a creative and thoughtfully designed stage. Take a mini–field trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to gather ideas for puppet personality, dress, and hairstyle. Learn about soft sculpture construction techniques, texture, exaggeration, and whimsical portraiture. At the end of the week, present puppet creations to family and friends.

Open to students ages 6 to 9. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2026. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camp Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration.

Information about weekly extended care options for ages 6-12 through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camp Policies page.
