Introduction to Drawing and Watercolor Painting: Botanicals for Ages 12-15 (In Person)

Learn to render the details and colors of plant life through drawing and watercolor. Open to ages 12 to 15.

Course description

Using botanicals as subject matter, learn techniques to capture different specimens from real life and photos. Explore the outdoors on MCAD’s campus (weather permitting) to observe plants firsthand and practice plein air watercolor painting. Strengthen drawing skills by focusing on contour lines, proportion, value, and overlapping, to create strong, dynamic compositions. With watercolor, apply washes, build layers, create resists, and experiment with ways to make marks that mimic nature with brushes and other materials. / Materials fee of $5 is included in course tuition.

Open to students ages 12 to 15. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2026. Please review our complete Teen Policies as well as our General Policies prior to completing your registration.
