Introduction to Ceramics: Hand-Building for Ages 15-18 (In Person)

Experiment with air-dry clay hand-building techniques while exploring storytelling and symbolism through objects. Open to ages 15 to 18.

Course description

Using air-dry clay and acrylic paint, create works with slab, relief, and pinch techniques. Investigate ideas in a fast-paced studio environment and translate texture and shape into three-dimensional forms. Projects may include wall shelves, figure explorations, and Mayan-inspired whistles with a twist. Draw inspiration from modern artists such as Isamu Noguchi, Takashi Murakami, and Yayoi Kusama, contemporary sculptors like Toshio Iezumi and Naoki Koide, and cultures that use shelves to tell stories about identity and tradition. / Material fee of $20 included in course tuition.

Open to students ages 15 to 18. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2026. Please review our complete Teen Policies as well as our General Policies prior to completing your registration.
