Introduction to Adobe Illustrator (Online)

Adobe Illustrator is one of the leading tools in logo creation, animation, and graphic design. Learn how to get started with Adobe Illustrator and work toward the creation of images and text with more sophisticated tools and techniques.

Course Description

Learn how to make images and logos using the pen tools, complex shapes, advanced patterns and personalized text. Explore the differences between vector-based images and bitmaps; identify when and why Illustrator should be used for a particular project and prepare files and export high-resolution graphics for use in print, web applications, videos and animations. Through demonstrations and practice, apply newly learned techniques and approaches to a comprehensive project. / Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the course.

Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Course meeting details

This online class is synchronous. Students will meet online using Google Meet for lecture, demonstrations, discussions, exercises, critiques, and share resources for the first 90 minutes. Office hours and independent work time follows each class session for 90 minutes. Office hours are an opportunity for students to ask questions and receive feedback and guidance.

Prerequisites

Previous experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are helpful, but not required.

Software
Adobe Creative Cloud (provided by MCAD).

Hardware
A computer capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud software, with internet access, a camera, and a microphone for class meetings and to capture and upload work.

This class uses Adobe Creative Cloud and Canvas, MCAD’s learning management system. Please see the link for more information.
