Creatures from the Cretaceous to the Present: Paleoart for Ages 6-9 (In Person)

Travel back in time and explore the world of living and prehistoric creatures through hands-on art-making! Open to ages 6 to 9.

Course description

Learn about creatures from the Cretaceous to the present, drawing inspiration from both living raptors and prehistoric ancestors. Create paleoart inspired projects using a wide variety of mediums, from basic drawing skills using graphite to three dimensional sculptures using modeling clay and paint. Journey to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to observe artworks featuring animals and natural imagery for additional creative inspiration. The course concludes with a creature-filled showcase of artwork for friends and family to admire.

On Wednesday morning, engage directly with live raptors when Studio Kids partners with the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center! Observe, study, and draw one or two birds of prey up close with guidance from interpretive naturalists.

Open to students ages 6 to 9. Students must meet the age requirement by August 1, 2026. Please review our complete Summer Youth Camp Policies as well as our General Policies before completing your registration.

Information about weekly extended care options for ages 6-12 through Children's Theatre Company are included in the Summer Youth Camp Policies page.
