Julia Meles, a senior at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, is an artist, curator, furniture maker, and writer, forging her way through a creative journey that reflects passion and resilience.

In a recent interview with Canvas Rebel, Meles shared her perspective on the risks involved in pursuing an artistic career in a society that can sometimes stifle creative expression. Her work spans multiple disciplines, from curating radical art events to creating personalized furniture designs. Meles also aims to create educational change, developing new lesson plans for schools that foster creativity rather than suppress it.

Meles sees herself as part of a broader movement of creatives who resist the conventional paths laid out for them. “When I live authentically as myself it can be lonely at times when I am not around people who understand but when I am around people who understand me, it means the world to me,” she reflected.
