2022 Merit Scholarship Recipient: Mizz. Wormhole

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted all paintings that I have made really recently most of which were from my Issues in Abstraction class with Ed Charbonneau.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I felt it was the best Art and Design school in Minnesota with exciting work from alumni. I have wanted to come to MCAD since I was in high school 10 years ago.

What's next for your practice? Anything you're really excited to make?

I want to be funnier. I am beginning to work larger. I am also really excited by the possibilities that paint and pigment has and I want to continue to play with this medium.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

I love having my own studio space on campus. I love that I can go to campus to work in my studio whenever I want.

What inspires you?

Butterflies, pop music, my cat Bianca, fashion... I am also inspired by my own work and the accomplishments and failures I have had throughout my life. I let my little successes and mistakes fuel my next projects.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made?

I think my favorite piece I have made is myself... I birthed myself as Mizz. Wormhole 6 years ago in a bar and since then I have been creating under the name Mizz. Wormhole for all my creative projects. Mizz. Wormhole is a project, she is a nice walk on the beach, she is able to become anything and gives me a platform and headspace to create other new artworks or performances. She is always a work in progress but when I work as Mizz. Wormhole I am able to further develop an understanding of who this character is.

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment? 

I am obsessed with Crocs. I became obsessed with Crocs in fall of 2021 and it was bad timing because I couldn't wear them during the winter... But I still did. I am obsessed with comfort and napping. I am also obsessed with my cat Bianca Lynn Hole. She is literally my favorite person in the world.
