Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted work that showed off my eagerness for craftsmanship as well as experimental work. Most of the items were made of wood as that is the medium I gravitate towards but had introductions of new materials like insolation foam and resin.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I came to MCAD for illustration but soon felt more at home within furniture design.

What made you switch to furniture design from illustration?

I would say that the way George Mahoney really pushed me in my foundation 3D class and really made me feel for the material. I picked it up very fast and it was fun to prove him wrong when he said I didn't have time or it wouldn't work. Now that first piece is hanging on my wall as a reminder.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

It would probably be the work within the 3D Majors, the work you make is reliant on you and what you want to create. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn what works and what doesn't and I think figuring out other people's styles during this time is very exciting and fun.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I am planning on getting the best I can out of learning here before I am set for the world. After college I have a lot of plans I want to work on, first making my own shop/store where I sell products and maybe furniture. Then hopefully set up a gallery space for furniture makers and sculptural artists in the Twin Cities!

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

I got an old box Mitsubishi 1987 TV, it has been sitting in my studio ever since. I have big plans for it, just don't know yet...

What inspires you?

My love for comforting others is what drives me in my artwork. I love having someone feel a sense of belonging in my work and that they can interact and live with the furniture I create.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

My favorite piece so far would have to be my Figure 8 Chair. It is a chair created with cherry, hard maple, and ash wood with rope being the thing that supports you. It has two center beams that have the rope weaved between the two in a figure 8, hence the name. This piece was a challenge for me because it stretched my mind into textiles as well as not buying any pre-made material (besides the rope).

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

I have been obsessed with making little boxes and mallets, if you follow me you will see more of them.
