Jessie Fisher received a BFA from the University of Minnesota, an MFA from the University of Iowa, and studied at the Scoula di Grafica in Venice, Italy, and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She has been an artist-in-residence at Visual Art and Design Academy Santa Barbara, Watershed Center for Ceramic Art, Studio Art College International in Florence, Italy, and GuangXi Arts Institute Nanning, China. She is a recipient of the Ohio Young Painters Prize and founding member of Studio Nong, an artist’s collective and residency program based in southern China. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the country including, the Weisman Museum of Art Minneapolis, the American Academy of Art Philadelphia, Oulous Repair Shop Los Angeles, Leedy-Voulkos Kansas City, and numerous academic institutions regionally and abroad in Italy, and China. Fisher was a Professor in Painting at the Kansas City Art Institute (2005-2022), recently relocating to her beloved Twin Cities to renovate a former church on St Paul’s East Side to house studios, classrooms, library, and lecture hall. She is currently teaching at Metro State University and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Fisher shows regionally with the MATERIALIST collective and the Prince Street Gallery in New York City.
