Master of Arts in Creative Leadership

The MA Creative Leadership is designed to support those who want to bring about change within nonprofits, businesses, social enterprises, or government agencies. With a focus on forward-looking organizational practices, the program is designed to support leaders in a wide range of industries to collaborate across differences and build solidarity around a shared purpose. The curriculum prepares individuals at any stage of their career for a future where leadership is networked, collective, relational, and transformative.

It combines: (1) methods and practices of artists and designers, (2) natural world models and eco-consciousness, (3) decentralized management and decision making processes, and (4) frameworks and tools for advancing change while centering care for both people and planet

  • Apply the structures, principles, and practices of non-hierarchical, decentralized, and agile networks, organizations, and teams.
  • Incorporate the practices of artists and designers into the processes of collaboration across difference, undertaking transformational change, and imagining and making new worlds.
  • Apply (eco)systems understanding to analyze interdependencies between environmental, social, and economic forces and to design regenerative organizations, or other systems.
  • Exercise relational leadership, conversational receptiveness, and cultural competence in interpersonal interactions and effectively foster an inclusive and caring workplace..
  • Engage storytelling, coaching, facilitation, and listening skills to connect authentically with others, catalyze change, and promote community building and social healing.
  • Advance values-led change at the level of self/career, organization/team, or system/community; identify areas of strength and of growth in one’s practice of creative leadership to develop a personal leadership plan with a manifesto.

Master of Arts in Graphic and Web Design

The objective of the online master of arts degree in graphic and web design is to provide a rigorous and professional course of study to prepare students for careers in the field of graphic and web design.

The program blends theoretical and practical work in the topics of design history and theory; typography and visual communication; research and ideation processes; web specific design and development. The program will also address professional topics related to the design field, including developing and presenting creative vision and voice; workflow and client relationships. The program recognizes and addresses that the modern designer is expected to enter the workforce as a well-rounded contributor in print, digital, and web environments.

  • Apply design concepts through typography, images, and form using industry standard tools and methods.
  • Document process and communicate design strategies from ideation and research to final product.

Master of Arts in Sustainable Design

Through a blending of theory, practice, and leadership concepts and skills, MCAD’s sustainable design program educates individuals to become collaborative designers, global innovators, and creative leaders in the field of sustainable design.

  • Describe the term sustainability and summarize the history of its usage through various readings, critiques, and discussions.
  • Identify relevant sustainability frameworks and describe examples of their application.
  • Select and apply appropriate sustainable design tools to solve real-world sustainability challenges.
  • Work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary groups to produce sustainability-focused work and deliver professional presentations.
  • Exhibit sustainable design capacity through a professional web-based portfolio.
  • Propose, create, and discuss a self-driven, sustainability-focused thesis project and presentation.
