What surprised you the most about the Pre-College Summer Session?

The thing that surprised me the most was how fast the whole program went by! It’s an intense two weeks but it feels so short. I wish I could have stayed longer!

What aspect of the program had the biggest impact on you?

Being able to spend time away from home in a college setting (with my own dorm, roommate, responsibilities, etc.) was really impactful on me. I think my levels of independence and maturity were significantly boosted.

How has your artistic practice changed from being a part of the program?

In being a part of Illustration, I did a lot of stuff that was outside of my comfort zone, including using mediums that I’m not used to. I was also able to learn a lot from our instructor as well as the other students in terms of different techniques and ideas!

What was your favorite experience, outside of the classroom?

The Minneapolis area, particularly Nicollet Avenue, was so fun to explore! There were plenty of opportunities to go out with friends from other majors and get food, or check out some local shops. Personally, The Bad Waitress was my favorite spot, it’s super cute!

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about coming to Pre-College Summer Session?

If you’re scared or worried about what comes next after high school, a program like Pre-College Summer Session can totally shift your perspective. As a person who was very unsure about their future college plans, my time at MCAD has made me so much more confident in myself and my school career.
