Printmaking Foundations (In Person)

Learn the basics of three of the most popular and exciting forms of printmaking: monoprinting, relief printing, and intaglio. Open to ages 16 and above.

Course Description

Become familiar with monoprinting, relief printing, and intaglio techniques and gain the skills you need to work safely and successfully in MCAD’s printshop. Learn basic color theory, color mixing, composition and printing methods. Class activities include demos, discussion, and supervised work time. This course sets beginner students and artists up to take more advanced printmaking courses MCAD offers. Please note: screenprinting is not covered in this course. / Materials fee of $29 and facility fee of $104 is included in tuition. / Please review the Printshop Facility Fees Supply List for more information.

Open to students ages 16 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

This course meets in person on MCAD's campus. Students do not have access to the Printshop outside of class hours.

Prerequisites

Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required.

Required materials

Supplies for first class

  • pen or pencil
  • notebook or sketchbook

The materials fee and facility fee for this class will cover the required supplies for the first class session. A complete list of suggested materials will be discussed during the first class meeting. Students should expect to spend up to approximately $100 on supplies in addition to tuition. The cost of supplies will depend on the scope of the students' projects.

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity. An apron may be useful. Closed-toe shoes are required. Long hair should be tied back.
