Introduction to Screenprinting (In Person)

Screenprinting is a direct printmaking technique that builds images from layers of color and can be used to create everything from custom silkscreened T-shirts to one-of-a-kind posters and fine art prints.

Course description

Explore a combination of stenciled, hand-drawn, and painted techniques to complete multiple screenprints. Students with Photoshop skills have the option to use digitally output images. Through demonstrations, handouts, print samples, and informal critiques, the instructors provide an overview of what one can achieve with screenprinting. The class primarily focuses on work on paper, but also covers some basic T-shirt and fabric printing. Non-toxic, water-based inks are used. / Students have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the course. / Materials fee of $41 and facility fee of $96 included in tuition. Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

This class meets in person on MCAD’s campus. This class has limited access to the Printshop. Students do not have access to the Printshop outside of class hours. Please review the Printshop guidelines in advance.

Prerequisites

Students working from digital files must have prior experience with Adobe Photoshop; the class offers no software instruction.

The materials fee and facility fee for this class will cover the required supplies.

Software
Adobe Creative Cloud (provided by MCAD)

Hardware
If students access Adobe Creative Cloud at home, a computer capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud software, with internet access is required.

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity. An apron may be useful. Closed-toed shoes are required. Long hair should be tied back.
