Course descriptionDiscover how applicable the traditional methods of painting are in the contemporary art world and redefine what painting is today by pushing the limits of the artist and their tools. This workshop explores various traditional and non-traditional media. In addition to painting focused assignments, gain exposure to various painting styles and histories through instructor demos and discussions. Get reacquainted with terms commonly used to discuss art and explores the value of group critique. Become inspired to further development your own painting practice.At the end of the course, educators will be able to apply what they have learned to class curriculum. Class time will be split between presentations, dialogue and studio time. / This class will have a one-hour lunch break each day. / Graduate credit is available.Open to students ages 18 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.Class meeting detailsThis course is synchronous, meaning students meet daily at the same time. Class meetings are held via Google Meet and include lectures, demonstrations, exercises, critiques, time to ask questions and one-on-one meetings with the Instructor. The daily online schedule will be split in two parts.Mornings: (9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.) class meeting for lecture, demonstrations and exercises.Afternoons: (1:00–4:00 p.m.) independent work time, office hours and one-on-one meetings; (4:00–5:00 p.m.) class meeting for group discussions and critique.PrerequisitesPrevious drawing or painting experience.Required materialsSupplies for the first classPen or pencilNotebook or sketchbookComplete supply list.
