My thesis exhibition project is a viewing kiosk for the movie, A Project for You. The audience can watch the movie, Picnic Day, which the characters, Summer and Ernest, made, and read their statement on an iPad attached to the wall. The statement from the characters talking about the movie they made also directs the viewers to go to the QR code business card to watch the “behind the scenes” view of their movie. This project consists of multiple parts and this “behind the scenes” movie is actually A Project for You. Watching A Project for You completes the full thesis project.  The movie follows a couple who engage in domestic and creative labor as a form of care. The fourth wall element plays around with my self-reflective mode of making and viewing movies. Summer and Ernest made a movie about two people making a movie. We, Soraya and I, watch our characters watch a movie they made and we, the filmmakers, also made. We engaged with all the aspects of labor, care, and gift-giving that the characters themselves went through while making the movie. While exploring the light-heartedness of mumblecore, a genre of American independent movies spanning the 2000s, the decision to construct the movie in which most scenes depict the average and every day rather than the set pieces that making a movie has potential for revolves around the focus and gentleness that slow cinema can provide.  The entry point to the movie is through the statement the characters themselves give to the audience which leads to the gift of the full movie, A Project for You. By keeping the work digital, the audience member can access it as long as they would like. In addition, I used the QR code because I wanted to extend viewership with internet-based distribution to encourage less strenuous, multi-focus viewing. How does the movie change when an audience member is in a half-awake nap or cooking while the characters are doing the same?
