Pre-College Studio Intensive: Hand-Drawn Animation (in person)

In this weeklong intensive, high school students explore the animation major.

Students engage in demonstrations and lectures while working independently on assignments designed to hone their skills, ideas, and critical thinking skills. This class offers an introduction to hand-drawn animation, covering basic techniques and concepts. Students use aspects of Adobe Photoshop and After Effects to bring their animations to life. Students dig into the fundamentals of animation by learning about frame rate and basic animation principles, such as squash and stretch, ease-in/ease-out, anticipation, and more. / This class will have an unsupervised 30 minute lunch break. / Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software throughout the class.

Open to students ages 15-18. MCAD strictly adheres to these age guidelines and is unable to allow exceptions. Please review our complete Teen Policies as well as our General Policies prior to completing your registration.

Prerequisites

Previous drawing experience. Experience with Adobe Photoshop is helpful but not required.

Supplies for the first class

  • pen or pencil
  • notebook or sketchbook
  • headphones or earbuds for editing
  • packed lunch each day, no nuts 

Hardware
Students will have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software. If students want to use this software at home, they will need a computer capable of running Adobe software.
