Painting with Gouache 2: Mastering the Medium Intensive (In Person)

Designed as a continuation of Painting with Gouache 1, this class expands students' foundational skills through a rigorous curriculum and personalized, one-on-one instruction. Open to ages 16 and above.

Course description

Each class session includes both technical demonstrations of a variety of gouache techniques, as well as individual critique and instruction. In addition to advanced techniques, useful and thorough critiques are emphasized in order to help students develop their own individual painting style. Strategies for generating visual content, expressing ideas, investigating themes, and solidifying meaning in one's artwork are also covered. Leave this class with further refinement and development of gouache skills, and personal gouache style. / A materials fee of $22 is included in the course tuition.

Open to students ages 16 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Prerequisites

Previous experience working in gouache is required. Previous drawing and painting experience is required.

Required materials

Supplies for the first class

  • pen or pencil
  • notebook or sketchbook
  • one sheet of 22 x 30" watercolor paper 140lb
  • gouache paint (recommended: Holbein, Winston & Newton and Niji):
    • blue
    • red
    • yellow
    • black
    • white
    • other colors optional
  • brushes (round 4; flat 1/2" and other sizes optional)
  • one HB pencil
  • kneadable and pink pearl erasers
  • plastic pallet or disposable wax pallet pad
  • container for water
  • paper towels
  • one roll of masking tape

Students should expect to spend up to approximately $125–$200 on supplies in addition to tuition, depending on projects.
