Printmaking Workshop: Get Started with Gel Plates (In Person)

Discover the art of water-based monoprinting through the fun, spontaneous process of gel plate printing. Open to ages 16 and above.

Course description

Combine color and texture to build beautiful, one-of-a-kind images. The highly sensitive gel surface easily captures tiny details from leaves, fabric, tools, and cardboard. Class activities include creating original designs with stencils, adding texture with found objects, and experimenting with unique mark-making techniques. / A materials fee of $25 is included in the course tuition.

Open to students ages 16 and above. Review complete policies, including class cancellation policies, before completing your registration.

Class meeting details

This course meets in person on MCAD’s campus. This class has no access to the Printshop and is scheduled in a traditional classroom.

Prerequisites

Previous drawing experience helpful, but not required. Previous painting experience helpful, but not required.

Required materials

Supplies for the first class

  • pen or pencil
  • notebook or sketchbook
  • one baren
  • one 4" bryer
  • one 5 x 7" (or larger) gel plate

Optional supplies

  • Magazines

Students should expect to spend approximately $50 on supplies in addition to tuition.

What to wear
Clothes appropriate for messy creativity. An apron may be useful.
