In this introductory workshop, discover the basics of creating script hand-lettering and simple, effective typographic compositions. Open to ages 16 and above. Course descriptionUse sketching materials, such as pencils, ink, nibs, and markers, to experiment with script letterforms, adding weight, flourishes, and varied slopes to create a wide range of styles. Learn a foundational understanding of letterform construction, as well as connection and flourishing techniques. Master basic typographic terminology and layout strategies to confidently transform rough sketches into finished pieces of custom lettering.Open to students ages 16 and above. Students will meet together online on Wednesdays from noon–1:00 p.m. CT using Google Meet for lectures, demonstrations, class discussions, exercises, time to ask questions and share resources. The instructor will hold office hours for 30 minutes after each class meeting to answer questions and provide individualized feedback and guidance.PrerequisitesPrevious drawing experience helpful, but not required.
