Her practice explores themes of ecology, ephemerality, interconnection, and cyclicality. As a self-taught weaver, Jacobs pushes against the rectilinear structure of the loom, weaving organic forms that echo cell structures, geological formations, and mycelium networks. This practice becomes a rebellion against the ideals of efficiency and control, offering instead a visual language of organic entanglement, decay, and transformation. She asks: how might we compost the harmful structures in place today into something new and generative?Born and based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, she has lived on both coasts, earning her BFA in Fine Arts from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, and her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at Maine College of Art and Design, in Portland, Maine.TEACHING PHILOSOPHY MENTORSHIPI believe the role of a mentor is to listen deeply—to the student as a creative innovator and to their practice and their work. My approach is rooted in curiosity, and I support students by asking thoughtful questions that help them stay engaged with their process and ideas. Together, we create a space that nurtures exploration, embraces failure as part of growth, and encourages both conceptual and technical development. I am a hands-on mentor who loves guiding students as they find their passion and their voice—ultimately helping them push their practice to a place where they can stand behind their concepts and their work with confidence and clarity.
