Describe the work you submitted for merits.

Much of my work focuses on the emotions a character has by themselves and the interactions with other characters.

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I had planned on applying to MCAD since my junior year of high school, thinking it would be close to home as I lived in Minnesota at the time. My family moved to Texas my senior year, and even though they were far away, I still wanted to come to MCAD as I loved the campus and energy when I visited the year before and when I attended PCSS after my sophomore year in high school.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I plan on applying for some internships and working on senior project during senior year. After school I hope to work closely with the printing side of comic making and producing my own comics. If the state of the world allows it, I'd love to table at some conventions too!

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

Seeing others work from classes! l love seeing the work others make as they are both talented and so different from what I personally would make.

What's the best thing you've got from MCAD's free shelf?

A tea diffuser shaped like a scuba diver!

What inspires you?

Artists like Kat Leyh, Kazu Kibuishi, and Mike Mignola, most of the Ghibli movies, and my own experiences.

Do you have a favorite piece you've made? Describe it!

I think my favorite piece I've made so far was the final for both my Comic Media and Concepts and The Comic Scene classes. It was a ten page colored comic about a lighthouse keeper going to the funeral of their grandpa and grieving. I took heavy inspiration from Mike Mignola on this project and making this comic honestly helped me process my own grief as I had lost my own grandpa recently. I would love to make more works like this one in the future. (This comic is also on my website, free to read!)

Anything you're obsessed with at the moment?

Stardew Valley, Hades, and Fallout 4, podcasts Morbid and Pre-Dead Boys, and making sketchbooks!
