What kind of work are you excited to make next?

My current work involves working with both with figurative and abstract imagery, to create spaces that have defined formal qualities such as depth and light, and also elicit an emotional response from the viewer. I am currently making a series of paintings inspired by cows I saw studying in Ireland as well as a series of abstract drawings and I would like to continue developing these.

What are your hopes/goals for your senior year? And beyond?

My hopes are to make as much art as I can, and enjoy my last year at MCAD with friends! After I graduate I would like to teach art to young children, continue to make art and travel!

Best thing you ever got on the free shelf?

A chocolate croissant.

Current obsession?

The Burren Landscape.

Teaching Artist Practicum Biography

Anavi Mullick is a former graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (2020). She holds a BFA as a Drawing and Painting major and a Teaching Artist minor. Anavi has worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Studio Kids Art Camps, a summer art camp for children aged 6-12 years. She has also done teaching artist residencies at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Whittier International School.

From an early age Anavi has been passionate about teaching young children and has worked with children ages ranging from 3 to 15 years. Anavi feels that working with children is a two-way learning process. She is inspired by their spontaneity and expansive dreams and wishes to integrate these in her own art practice. In her work, she focuses on exploring questions of belonging and self-identity as they relate to her ever-changing existence in, and relationship to place.

Anavi has grown up surrounded by art in school and at home, with the freedom to use it as a method of expression, coloring outside the lines. As a teaching artist she hopes to change the “I can’t do art,” mindset by providing opportunities for others to experience art like she did.
