After witnessing an immigration enforcement operation on her street in Saint Paul, Andrea DeGaetano ’90 created Taken Here, an independent community remembrance project. The project combines graphic design, storytelling, and public space to create public markers across the country to honor the lives forever changed by immigration enforcement.

As DeGaetano explains, “More than three decades after graduating from MCAD… I still draw on what I learned there: that thoughtful design can communicate ideas, tell human stories, and encourage people to engage with the world around them. That belief is at the heart of Taken Here.” Ten percent of the net proceeds from the project goes toward supporting the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota.
