Graciela DeAnda, MFA student at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, was recently featured in Bold Journey for her use of photography and multimedia storytelling to document migration, memory, and community.

DeAnda credits her work ethic to her upbringing as the daughter of Mexican immigrants, shaped by her parents’ sacrifices and perseverance. That foundation now informs a practice rooted in care and responsibility, particularly when working with individuals who share deeply personal stories.

Her artistic process blends traditional and experimental methods. DeAnda works with analog cameras, including medium and large-format equipment, while also experimenting with darkroom techniques such as cyanotypes. These photographic elements are often combined with materials like textiles, sound, and found objects to create immersive installations designed to engage multiple senses.

DeAnda says, "My goal is to create work that preserves stories, builds connection, and highlights the resilience and beauty within communities that are often overlooked."
