Cheri Gaulke Premieres Bold New Documentary at Dances With Films Festival

Cheri Gaulke ’75 will premiere her latest short documentary, Old Girl in a Tutu: Susan Rennie Disrupts Art History, at the Dances With Films Festival in Los Angeles.

The film, directed by Gaulke, spotlights legendary scholar and activist Susan Rennie, who boldly inserts her queer, octogenarian body into iconic Western artworks—reframing the canon with wit, insight, and fearless self-expression.

A pioneer of feminist performance art, Gaulke’s influential career has spanned public art, museum exhibitions, and award-winning films. Gaulke is also completing her first feature-length documentary, Acting Like Women, which explores the 1970s feminist art movement in Los Angeles and includes reflections on her formative years at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
