2026/27 Merit Scholarship Recipient: Moira Wigderson

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

The Art + technology concentration being a thing in the first place. There are not many places that provide such a unique major like this. Being able to merge a fine art practice with technology is incredibly special.

How/why did you choose your area of study?

I was looking for something that would allow me to merge my interest in coding/video games with a more experimental art practice as well.

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted work that is largely interactive. My work tends to activate the viewer by making them have to interact with the work in order for them to see the full experience. I also mainly submitted work that involves some level of technology in any way, via the topic itself of technology or the material.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

My favorite thing about college life is being in an environment where I'm surrounded by so many different art practices! I learn just as much from my peers who do completely different things than me. I also get to reciprocate that knowledge as well, it's a wonderful exchange of ideas and information!

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I'm hoping to make more artwork with recycled electronics, I have taken a particular interest in that recently and I feel like that idea/material has a lot of potential, even more so with how much E-waste exists already.

What's the best thing you've found on the Free Shelf?

Clothes - art students have great fashion taste!
