2026/27 Merit Scholarship Recipient: Heather Huston

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

I liked the idea of attending a school focused on the arts and it was helpful that the program was available online. MCAD's long history also helped with that decision process.

How/why did you choose your area of study?

As a professional graphic designer, I wanted to expand my skills in areas such as web design, motion graphics, & UX design.

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I submitted a broad range of work, centering around branding with type, web design, and motion graphics

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

Well this is my second time around. I guess I love that in some ways it doesn't feel any different than the first time and also that at the same time it feels completely different. Much more traditional approach this time around, which I am enjoying.

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

I graduate this Summer, so my Senior year is just about over with, but I hope to be able to take what I've learned and move into a different area of design, specifically an area that allows me to grow my motion skills.

What inspires your creative self?

So many things. I'm inspired by other art, by music, the way the light creates patterns and colors in the sky, sometimes even a quote or a lyric will spark an image that I want to try and create.
