2026/27 Merit Scholarship Recipient: Bella Bedell

Why did you decide to come to MCAD?

MCAD's community and resources were very appealing to me. Additionally, my favorite place to go growing up was the MIA, and when I learned how close campus was, I was sold!

How/why did you choose your area of study?

I have always been fascinated by the cultural impact graphic design can hold. Design is everywhere and limitless.

Describe the work you submitted for merits.

I chose my work based on similar aesthetics and color themes. All of the pieces share themes of connection, nature, and memory. I focused on pieces that are representative of what's most important to me as a designer.

What inspires your creative self?

I am most inspired by nature and human connection. The small things that make life beautiful.

Favorite thing about college life (so far)?

MCAD bunnies, PPB classes, and browsing the library.

What's the best thing you've found on the Free Shelf?

I found a brand new Brita water filter

What are your plans for your senior year? And beyond?

In my senior year, I hope to focus on integrating more personal illustrations into my work. I hope to push myself outside of my current aesthetic and learn how my skills can soar in a professional environment. Beyond MCAD, I am hopeful to land a design job either at a museum or a design firm.
